Bayonne Etche-Ona de Bordeaux
Bordeaux’s locavore and environmentally friendly businesses
This month, the Best Western Premier Hôtel Bayonne Etche-Ona proposes to highlight the locavore and environmentally friendly businesses in Bordeaux.
It seems that Bordeaux is at the top of the top 5 most locavore cities in France, thanks to its network of direct sales producers. Being locavore means favoring seasonal products from the region.
Bordeaux Metropole has published a map of farmers who practice direct sales:
Whether the producer sells on his farm, on a market, in an AMAP (association for the maintenance of a peasant agriculture), in La Ruche Qui Dit Oui, in a Farmers’ Drive or in the store of an Agricultural Cooperative, you are assured of eating fresh, seasonal and local food.
Locavore and eco-friendly grocery stores and boutiques 🙂
A few locavore and eco-friendly grocery stores have appeared in Bordeaux. Let us note, among others:
- La Recharge (located 38 rue Sainte-Colombe), offers local organic products, without packaging. You can shop while respecting the producers and the environment.
- Day by Day (located at 61 rue Fondaudège), is a bulk grocery store. Choose the quantity you want, all without unnecessary packaging. You will find savory and sweet groceries, seeds, cosmetics, hygiene and home care products, cat food and other everyday products.
- From the farm… to the city, is the store of a family farm where poultry is raised in the open air. Jean-Pierre Lacaze awaits you in his store located at the barrier of Pessac and advises you on the choice of poultry, vegetable and fruit preserves, foies gras, confits, terrines and poultry sausages. His poultry has won numerous awards, including a prize of excellence for poulardes. Visit us at 103 cours du maréchal Gallieni in Bordeaux, from Tuesday to Saturday or at the Halles de Talence, Place Alcala de henares, in Talence, open every day except Monday.
Restaurants also follow the trend
Two locavore restaurants are also a must try:
- At Casa Gaïa, the chef uses local, organic and seasonal products. He knows his producers well and the plate is appetizing and tasty. The menu presents market gardeners, breeders, fishermen and wine growers. Thus, the consumer knows the origin of what he will taste. The cooking is done over a beech wood fire, which enriches the flavor of the dishes prepared. The restaurant is designed with respect for the environment. On sunny days, you can have lunch or dinner on the terrace. (Open from Tuesday to Sunday – go to 16 bis rue Latour in Bordeaux – https://www.casagaia.fr/)
- Hortus (located at 114 Cours de Verdun in Bordeaux), also favors fresh, seasonal and organic products from the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Visit their website https://www.hortus-restaurant.fr/
- Label Terre (located at 2 cours Alsace-Lorraine in Bordeaux), offers to lunch lovers salads, sandwiches and desserts made with extra-fresh products coming from local or regional producers. Sandwich + drink + dessert formula for less than 10€. Here too, the names and addresses of all the producers are displayed.
